John W. Gobbin, a 55-year-old laborer from San Rafael is one of the regulars at Marin County Jail. Gobbin is frequently arrested for illicit drugs, including most recently for possession of more than one pound of methamphetamine.

Gobbin is well acquainted with the Marin County Sheriff’s Office protocols. As a matter of fact, he has been arrested 38 times since 2013, including his arrest this month.

Marin County Sheriff’s Office detectives arrested Gobbin at a San Rafael apartment complex one mile away from the jail. He was taken into custody at the Marinian Tower Apartments located on Professional Center Parkway.

His latest incarceration stems from an narcotics investigation conducted by the sheriff’s office. Following execution of search warrants, he was arrested again on August 10 at 4:20 p.m.

Detectives recovered methamphetamine packaged for sale and additional evidence against Gobbin. They also confiscated drug paraphernalia, digital scales, and replica firearms found in his possession. An unspecified amount of cash was seized as well.

Gobbin was held on open charges in lieu of $50,000 bond. He presently faces one felony charge for possession of a controlled substance for sale, pending review of his case.

Gobbin is a prolific Marin County drug offender. He has been arrested at least 17 times for possession of a controlled substance, and six times for possession of drug paraphernalia.

Moreover, he also has previous arrests for possession of tear gas, making threats of violence, burglary, and trespassing. In addition, he has been arrested several times for violation of probation and parole stemming from prior criminal convictions.
