Agency Collaboration Leads to Arrest of a Man with an Outstanding Warrant

MILL VALLEY —Several police agencies collaborated in the arrest of a man from Union City. The suspect was driving a vehicle associated with an outstanding felony warrant for evading law enforcement.

His vehicle was spotted by an automated license plate reader in Tiburon, prompting an alert to nearby agencies. A Mill Valley police officer waited near the city limits and observed the vehicle approaching Mill Valley.

The officer attempted to conduct an enforcement stop: “The vehicle fled at a high rate of speed with wanton disregard to public safety,” according to a police statement.

The driver fled onto southbound Highway 101. He exited from the freeway onto the Redwood Highway Frontage Road in Mill Valley.

Soon afterward, the vehicle crashed into a guard rail underneath Highway 101. The driver fled on foot into a residential area. He was located and arrested near 2304 Shelter Bay Avenue.

The suspect and an officer sustained minor injuries and received medical treatment at a hospital. No other motorists were involved in the crash.

John R. De Los Reyes, a 28-year-old delivery driver from Union City, was arrested July 1 at 11:10 p.m. De Los Reyes was transported to Marin County Jail, where he remains in custody in lieu of $35,000 bond.

He was booked on charges for sale/transportation of marijuana/hashish and evading an officer with disregard for safety. He also faces charges for hit and run with property damage; possession of marijuana for sale, and obstructing/resisting an officer.

Mill Valley PD was assisted by the Marin County Sheriff’s Office, California Highway Patrol and U.S. Park Police. Police from Belvedere, San Rafael, Sausalito, and Tiburon also assisted.
