OXNARD, CA  —  June 21, 2025 – A 46-year-old Oxnard man is in custody after allegedly attacking two other men with improvised
weapons during an attempted robbery at a homeless encampment.

According to Ventura County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Det. Jonathan Schnereger, deputies
from the Headquarters Patrol Station were dispatched to “a known homeless encampment’ just
outside the City of Oxnard on the morning of June 18Ventura after receiving reports of an assault at a
transient encampment.

When deputies arrived at the reported location, they found two adult male
victims—ages 58 and 46—who indicated that a suspect, later identified as Anthony Alviso, had
“entered their encampment and attacked them without warning.”

Corroborating witnesses reported that Alviso, “armed with makeshift weapons,” struck at least
one of the victims, causing injuries, before attempting to steal a bicycle. He fled the scene before
deputies arrived.

Three days later, on June 21, members of the Sheriff’s Homeless Liaison Unit (HLU) teamed
up with detectives from the Headquarters Station to track Alviso through encampments in the
area. “Leveraging their relationships with the local unhoused community,” HLU deputies located
Alviso and took him into custody without incident.

Alviso was booked into the Ventura County Pre-Trial Detention Facility on charges of assault
with a deadly weapon and attempted robbery. His bail has been set at $105,000.
