Perhaps it’s in anticipation of possible changes in California’s concealed carry laws pursuant to recent U.S. Supreme Court rulings that more and more folks seem to be packing heat, but it’s unlikely that it will ever be legal to walk around town with a weapon like the one carried by 38- year-old Oxnard resident Aldrian Higgs.

According to Oxnard Police Department spokesman Jose Velazquez, Higgs’ weapon of choice was none other than a “9mm Glock-style P80 handgun with an extended handgun magazine containing 32 unexpended bullets.” That’s the item found on Higgs “during a pat-down search” of his person nearly three hours after midnight on June 18 th when he was stopped by an OPD black-and-white patrol unit. The officers had observed Higgs driving along an Oxnard boulevard in a 2019 Honda Accord. His rate of speed appeared to be “a vehicle code violation” and he was summarily pulled over in a routine traffic stop.

Things became a bit less than routine when the cops made contact with him and determined that he was driving on a suspended driver’s license and was out on bail “for a prior gun arrest” as well as for a separate drug charge.

When Higgs was invited to alight from the Honda and the ensuing search of his person revealed him to be carrying the aforementioned illegal weapon and ammunition, he was quickly put in handcuffs and transported to Ventura County Jail, where he was booked on multiple firearms violations.
