SAN RAFAEL CA — A man was arrested twice recently in connection with multiple thefts in
Marin County.
Jamal Allan Reed-Obafumi, 45, of San Francisco, faces felony charges for
allegedly stealing video games from public libraries.
Several library branches in Marin County experienced thefts of video games. Nintendo Switch
video games were reported stolen from seven different library branches.
Copycat thefts of video games at the libraries began occurring in April. The thefts continued
happening through June. The Marin County Sheriff’s Office investigated these thefts, which
are believed to be related.
A prepared statement from the sheriff’s office identifies Reed-Obafumi as the suspect
allegedly responsible. “Reed-Obafumi stole approximately $10,000 worth of Nintendo Switch
video games from library branches.”
Reed-Obafumi was first arrested on May 12. He was booked at Marin County Jail for burglary,
grand theft, conspiracy to commit a crime, and organized retail theft. He was released on
bond shortly afterward.
On June 17, Marin County Sheriff’s Office detectives placed Reed-Obafumi under arrest
again. This time he was booked for burglary, and committing a felony while released on bond.
However, he has since been released from custody again.
The case against Reed-Obafumi is presently being reviewed by the Marin County District
Attorney’s Office.
He potentially faces 12 felony charges, which include multiple counts of
burglary. In addition, Reed-Obafumi faces a charge for committing a felony while free on
bond.
