BRENTWOOD — A wayward driver faces multiple charges involving illicit drugs and firearm
possession, following a traffic stop in Brentwood.
Michael J. Woodruff, 42, a resident of Richmond, took an unplanned detour straight to jail.
Woodruff is no stranger to law enforcement in Contra Costa County.
Trouble found him again on May 15. An officer on patrol spotted a vehicle with expired registration license plate tags.
Woodruff was pulled over at approximately 11 a.m., near Brentwood Boulevard and East Sims Road.
While one officer was speaking with Woodruff, a second officer observed a handgun tucked inside his
waistband.
Woodruff was safely detained and his vehicle was searched. Besides the firearm, police
found in his possession ammunition, illicit drugs, a digital scale, and small plastic bags.
Officers placed Woodruff under arrest at 11:37 a.m., without further incident. He remains in custody at
the West County Detention Facility in lieu of $354,000 bond.
The following charges have been filed against Woodruff –
* Possession of a firearm by a felon or narcotics addict
* Carrying an unregistered loaded handgun
* Possession of a controlled substance with a firearm
* Possession of a controlled substance for sale
* Possession of ammunition by a prohibited person
* Possession of an opium pipe/smoking device/injection device
Woodruff has been arrested 21 times since 2015. He has prior convictions on his record for first-
degree residential robbery, theft, controlled substances and firearm possession.
