Hardware Store Burglary Suspect in Custody

SAN RAFAEL — An unemployed man was arrested on suspicion of committing multiple
hardware store burglaries in San Rafael.

Shahkir A. Ahmadzai, 29, of Hayward, was booked into Marin County Jail on May 25.

Ahmadzai allegedly stole merchandise for several months from a Harbor Freight store, 863
East Francisco Boulevard. Evidently, Admadzai used to the same vehicle each time
merchandise was stolen from the store.

His driving habits evidently led to his arrest.

On May 24, San Rafael police were alerted by an automated license plate reader. The
suspect’s vehicle that was detected near the store shortly after 7:30 p.m.

Responding officers observed the suspect leaving the store when they arrived at the scene.
He drove away as the police approached. Admadzai allegedly fled with merchandise with a
$1,400 retail value, and rammed a police car.

San Rafael officers pursued him driving towards the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge. However,
the pursuit was aborted in the interest of public safety.

A few hours later, San Leandro police spotted Admadzai’s vehicle in their city, and detained
him. Admadzai was turned over to San Rafael police on May 25 at 2:30 a.m., who arrested
him at the San Leandro police station.

Admadzai remains in custody at Marin County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bond. He was booked on
open charges for –
* Burglary
* Conspiracy to commit crime
* Assault with a deadly weapon not a firearm
* Hit and run with property damage
* Evading an officer with disregard to safety
