HANFORD, CA — Two people were arrested after allegedly fleeing from an attempted traffic stop earlier this week.
According to a press release by the Kings County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy tried to pull over a Chevrolet Suburban traveling eastbound on Houston Avenue near 12th Avenue in Hanford on the night of Monday, May 19, for alleged mechanical violations.
The driver reportedly did not yield, initiating a pursuit.
The pursuit continued through multiple streets in south Hanford before reaching westbound on Hume Avenue, entering dirt roads leading into agricultural land. The pursuit ended when the vehicle became stuck in loose dirt near 13th Avenue, authorities said.
The driver, identified as John Solis, 40, of Corcoran, and a passenger, identified as Teresa Gonzales, 29, of Hanford, were taken into custody without further incident.
A records check reportedly showed that Solis had an outstanding felony no-bail warrant from Kings County for violation of Post Release Community Supervision.
A search of the vehicle also led to the discovery of pepper spray, authorities said. Due to his felon status, Solis is prohibited from possessing pepper spray.
Solis was booked into Kings County Jail on suspicion of felony pursuit, felon in possession of pepper spray, and the active felony warrant.
Gonzales was reportedly found to have an active felony no-bail warrant from Fresno County for possession of a stolen vehicle. During the booking process, deputies discovered a methamphetamine pipe in her possession.
She was booked on the active warrant, and the charge related to the pipe will be submitted to the Kings County District Attorney’s Office for review.
Both individuals remain ineligible for bail, the sheriff’s office said.
