SAN RAFAEL, CA — Marin County Sheriff’s Office detectives arrested a 38-year-old suspect for
allegedly stealing $25,000 from an elderly Marin City resident.
Zian Hu, who lives in Daly City, faces felony charges for the financial scam. Hu remains in custody at Marin County Jail in lieu
of $1 million bond.
The unidentified victim received a phone call from someone pretending to be an FBI agent. The
imposter falsely claimed that the victim was being investigated for identity theft.
The victim was persuaded to withdraw $25,000 in cash from their bank account. Next, the
victim was instructed to wait at home for someone to pick up the money.
Investigators identified Hu as a suspect. Marin detectives traveled to Daly City to
apprehend him at a resident on San Fernando Way.
Hu was placed under arrest on May 8 at 10:12 a.m. Hu was transported to the county lockup in San Rafael. He was booked on open
charges, pending further review of the case.
Hu was booked on suspicion of committing the following three felonies –
* Grand theft PC 487
* Theft/embezzlement of an elder dependent adult PC 368 (D)
* Conspiracy to commit a crime PC 182
Hu is suspected of being a caretaker participant in a criminal enterprise with access to large
amounts of stolen cash. Therefore, a judge set his bond at $1 million for release from custody.
