OAKLAND, CA — Two young Oakland men face criminal charges for allegedly committing
commercial burglaries at multiple locations in Oakland.
The suspects who were arrested and released from custody are 18-year-old Markus K. Williams, and 19-year-old Chidera A. Ojeh.
Williams and Ojeh allegedly participated in a crime spree on April 24 that started shortly after
4:45 a.m.
Businesses were targeted on Grand Avenue, High Street, MacArthur Boulevard,
Market Street, Park Boulevard, and Redwood Road. Patrol officers citywide responded to the
various incidents.
Multiple suspects used vehicles to force entry into three gas stations and two convenience
stores, Oakland police said in a prepared statement.
“Once inside, the suspects burglarized, or robbed the establishments, before leaving the area in their vehicles.”
Oakland police tracked down vehicles involved in the incidents and arrested four suspects
later the same day. The suspects were apprehended on the 3400 block of Wood Street.
“The officers recovered property believed to have been stolen during the crime spree,” officials said.
On April 28, charges were filed against Williams and Ojeh for robbery, attempted robbery,
commercial burglary, and vandalism.
The criminal compliant alleges that Williams and Ojeh participated in a series of “smash and grab” burglaries which took place within hours of one
another.
If convicted, Williams and Ojeh could be sentenced to more than ten years in state prison,
according to a statement released by the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office.
The other unidentified suspects who were arrested have not been charged at this point. The
investigation remains active. Anyone with information can contact the Oakland Police
Department burglary section at 510-238-3951.
