FREMONT — Two persons were arrested in connection with a shoplifting incident that turned violent. One suspect was booked into county jail and the second suspect was issued a citation.

The shoplifting incident occurred on New Year’s Day at the Walmart store located on Osgood Road. The two suspects were subsequently detained on February 5 during a traffic stop.

A store employee sustained minor injuries during the shoplifting incident. The 62- year-old man confronted the two suspects and asked them to pay for merchandise.

In response, he was punched so hard that he fell to the floor. He sustained a minor laceration on his elbow, but he declined medical attention as unnecessary.

Patrol officers investigated and identified a suspect vehicle, which was recorded by store surveillance cameras. The same vehicle was also recorded by a city surveillance camera, enabling authorities to determine its license number.

On February 5, officers patrolling near Stevenson Boulevard and Blacow Road spotted the suspect vehicle. It was stopped. The officers determined the two occupants inside were the two shoplifting suspects.

The store employee was brought to the scene and he positively identified the two suspects, both residents of Fremont.

Steven A. Mora, 31, was arrested and transported to Santa Rita Jail, charged with second-degree robbery. He remains in custody pending a plea hearing this week.

Mora’s companion 19-year-old Jasmine Stanford was issued a citation for robbery and released. Police said unspecified circumstances hindered her ability to be booked into jail. Stanford scheduled to appear in court in April to answer her robbery charge.
