LAFAYETTE, CA — Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested a driver who nearly crashed
into a Lafayette motorcycle officer.
The suspect, identified as Delvente Murry, 32, of San Francisco, was taken into custody on Mount
Diablo Boulevard, following a pursuit.
Deputies recovered stolen merchandise from supermarkets and a drug store that
was found inside his vehicle.
The suspect was fleeing from Lafayette police, before he crashed into another car and deputies apprehended him.
The incident began unfolding during the afternoon of March 26. The driver, who almost hit a police
motorcycle, was suspected of retail thefts. Murry led an officer on a pursuit, according to a
prepared statement from sheriff’s office. It ended when the suspect collided with another car.
No injuries were reported.
Murry was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility for booking.
Murry is ineligible for release on bond, pending a court hearing on April 10.
Felony and misdemeanor charges have been filed against Murry. His charges include assault with a
deadly weapon and force likely to cause great bodily injury to an officer. He is also charged with
driving recklessly while fleeing an officer. Additional charges include hit and run resulting in property
damage, and grand theft exceeding $950.
Murry has two prior convictions and other arrests on his record. He was convicted in 2021 for assault
with force likely to produce great bodily injury, and recklessly evading an officer. He was convicted for
first-degree residential burglary in 2013.
