Folsom Police Special Investigations Unit Secures Arrest in Double Fentanyl Homicide

FOLSOM, CA — “On December 13, 2024, just before 2:00 PM, Folsom Police officers and fire personnel responded to a heartbreaking call—a suspected Fentanyl overdose in the 100 block of Natoma Street. Despite emergency efforts, a 19-year-old young man lost his life to this deadly drug.
Detectives from the Folsom Police Department’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) immediately took over the case, working tirelessly to track down the person responsible for supplying the fatal dose. Their relentless investigation led them to 21-year-old Keon Taylor of Sacramento, a suspected dealer with a deadly past.
As detectives dug deeper, they uncovered an alarming connection: Taylor was also linked to the 2021 overdose death of a 17-year-old in Elk Grove. Thanks to the new evidence uncovered by Folsom SIU Detectives, the Elk Grove Police Department was able to reopen the case and charge Taylor with homicide.
On January 8, 2025, Taylor was arrested and booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail, where he remains without bail. On Tuesday morning, following the official report from the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office, Folsom SIU Detectives secured an additional murder charge against Taylor for the death of the 19-year-old Folsom victim—marking the first time a single drug dealer has been charged in two separate Fentanyl poisoning homicides.
This is the fifth case since 2023 where Folsom SIU Detectives have successfully filed homicide charges against a drug dealer. The Folsom Police Department is committed to keeping the Folsom community safe from narcotics and the inherent dangers associated with drug sales. We will continue to do everything in our power to hold drug dealers accountable for the lives they take.
Fentanyl is a highly potent and deadly opioid that is increasingly found in street drugs, often without users knowing. Even a tiny amount can be fatal. If you or someone you love is struggling with addiction, please seek help—there are resources available.
