WALNUT CREEK —A suspect with prior firearms-related arrests is in custody—this time for assaulting a victim with a rifle stock. Malcom D. Harris, 28, of Vallejo, is at the West County Detention Facility ineligible for release on bond.

Harris faces multiple charges involving an assault on March 2 near downtown Walnut Creek. The victim suffered from a head wound caused by being hit on the head by a rifle stock. This violent assault happened shortly after 12:30 a.m. on the 1500 block of North Main Street.

The suspect fled from the area before responding officers arrived. Investigators identified Harris as the suspect and an arrest warrant was issued for him. Walnut Creek police announced this month that Harris had been apprehended in Nevada.

Police in Las Vegas arrested Harris. He was extradited to Contra Costa County on April 22. Harris faces the following charges –

  • Assault with a machine gun or assault weapon
  • Possession of an assault weapon
  • Possession of a firearm by a felon
  • Use of a firearm
  • Causing great bodily injury
  • Probation violation

Harris has four other prior arrests related to firearms possession. He was convicted of firearm possession in October 2023 and sentenced to wear an electronic monitoring device. Harris also has previous arrests for battery, human trafficking, and pimping.

The assault investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information can contact the Walnut Creek Police Department at 925-943-5844.
