Daniel Angel Saliganpatricio, a 25-year-old resident of San Luis Obispo City, has entered a guilty plea to two felony counts of gross vehicular manslaughter, as announced by District Attorney Dan Dow. The charges stem from an incident on November 21, 2022, around 5:30 p.m., where Saliganpatricio reportedly lost control of his vehicle due to excessive speed on Sacramento Drive in San Luis Obispo. The vehicle failed to navigate a sharp turn, leading to a collision with pedestrians Matthew Ernest Chachere and Jennifer Ann Besser, who were walking their dog, Buddy, at the time. All three, both pedestrians and the dog, were fatally injured.

Saliganpatricio’s plea was entered without a sentencing agreement, leaving the judge with full discretion to determine his sentence, which could range from probation to a maximum term of seven years and four months in prison. The sentencing is scheduled for April 9, 2024, in Department 6 of the San Luis Obispo County Superior Court, with Judge Michael S. Frye presiding.

The San Luis Obispo Police Department conducted the investigation leading to Saliganpatricio’s prosecution, overseen by Deputy District Attorney Danielle Baker. Further information, including the defendant’s booking photo and charging documents, is available through the prosecutor’s office website.
