Lassen County Man Gets 50 Years to Life in Prison for Sexually Abusing Children
Originally published by the Lassen County District Attorney:

“ROBERT ANTHONY COX, JR., who was convicted after a jury trial back in July 2023, was sentenced today, February 8, 2024 to two consecutive 25-life terms for a total of 50 years-life, in alignment with both the District Attorney’s and Probation Department’s sentence recommendations.  The parents of one of the children were present to give heartfelt and emotional comments.

Cox was convicted of two counts of continuous sexual abuse of a child under the age of 14 in violation of Penal Code section 288.5.  That code section, by itself, carries a punishment of 6, 12, or 16 years in state prison. However, when a jury finds that the offenses were committed against more than one child, as they did here, it enhances the sentence to 25-life for each child. The judge had the option of imposing those terms concurrently (meaning they would run at the same time) or consecutively (one after the other), and in this case visiting judge Hon. James Voysey decided to impose them consecutively in order to reflect the pain and trauma inflicted to each child.”
