Solano County Man Arrested on Suspicion of Murder in Connection with Cinnabar Way Shooting

“During this investigation, Detectives learned an altercation took place between Jayro Magana (26, Fairfield) and David Lamont Herschel (20, Vallejo) prior to the shooting. Magana was critically wounded, and was later pronounced deceased a local hospital.

Shortly after the shooting, Herschel was detained by officers on Somerville Road, which is approximately 1 mile east of the original location of this incident. Officers were also able to recover a firearm discarded near the intersection of Nut Tree Road and Youngsdale Drive. Later in the evening of June 26th, Herschel was transported to Solano County Jail for charges 187 PC – Homicide, 245(a)(2) PC – Assault With A Deadly Weapon, and 25850(c)(2) PC – Carrying A Loaded Firearm.

The victim has been identified as Jayro Magana (26, Fairfield).

David Lamont Herschel (20, Vallejo) has been booked into the Solano County Jail on the following charges: 187 PC – Homicide, 245(a)(2) PC – Assault With A Deadly Weapon, and 25850(c)(2) PC – Carrying A Loaded Firearm.

On June 26th at approximately 2:20pm, officers responded to multiple reports of shots heard in the 1100 block of Cinnabar Way. Officers arrived on scene and found a 26-year old man (of Fairfield) suffering from gunshot wounds. The man’s identification is withheld pending notification of next of kin. Officers provided medical aid until the man was transported to a local hospital, where he eventually succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.

Officers initially received reports of a man fleeing on foot from the area after the shooting. A man matching that description was detained by officers on Somerville Drive, approximately one mile from the location of the shooting. Detectives are currently looking into whether this man was involved in the incident.

Detectives are looking into what led to this shooting, however this does not appear to be a random act of violence.
