Banning, CA – A 32-year-old man from Gresham, Oregon has been arrested in California for allegedly arranging a meeting with a minor and assaulting them. Devon Richard Decerto was apprehended at Ontario International Airport on February 14, 2023, before he could board a flight back to Portland, Oregon.
The arrest followed a report from the mother of a 16-year-old minor who had engaged in inappropriate online communication with an adult male. The minor was identified as Decerto’s victim, and after being in contact with them via social media, Decerto reportedly flew to California to meet with them. The minor was subsequently assaulted by Decerto in another city.
Banning Police Detectives worked with members of the Ontario Police Department to locate and arrest Decerto. He was charged with two counts: 288.3(a) PC, which relates to contact with a minor with the intent to commit specific crimes, and 288.4(b) PC, which relates to arranging a meeting with a minor.
Decerto was taken to Smith Correctional Facility in Banning, California, and remains in custody. The case has been assigned number 23-376.

The incident is a reminder of the dangers that can arise from inappropriate online communication, particularly between adults and minors. Parents and guardians are encouraged to monitor their children’s online activity and report any suspicious behavior to the authorities.
