In the late afternoon on August 29, a black Dodge Ram truck was “violating the vehicle code” and was spotted by an officer with the Monterey Police Department.

The officer tried to stop the driver, who instead decided to try and flee.

Soon a crash involving the fleeing truck was reported near Airport Way and Bruce Lane, and witnesses noted that the driver fled the scene.

An officer from the Seaside Police Department was assisting on hand and was able to detain 31-year-old Justin Casey as the fleeing driver of the Dodge Ram truck.

The suspect appeared to be under the influence of a controlled substance. He was also on probation for possession of a firearm and meth.

Along with a fence and a pole, Casey hit a Mercedes during his drive. His truck contained paraphernalia.

His charges include DUI, hit and run, evasion, probation violation, obstruction and possession of paraphernalia.
