OAKLAND — A 35-year-old man who works as a counselor allegedly sexually assaulted a 70- year-old woman. She was attacked inside an apartment building on the 200 block of Grand Avenue in Oakland on February 13.
A man wearing a neon yellow cap and a gold and diamond necklace forced her into a bathroom about 11:30 a.m. He also had a distinctive tattoo on his left hand. After sexually assaulting the woman, he fled from the scene but left electronic evidence nearby, which led to his arrest.
The victim provided a detailed description of the suspect to police. Investigators identified the suspect after reviewing video recorded of him using his Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card.
Oakland resident Derrick White was arrested 8:30 a.m. on February 21 at 6309 Baker Street in Oakland. White is charged with kidnapping, rape, forcible oral copulation, and other related charges. He is in custody at Santa Rita Jail ineligible for release on bond, pending a plea hearing on March 7.
Charges were filed against White on February 22. His charges include kidnapping, forcible oral copulation, and forcible rape. He is also charged with committing violence or harm against a vulnerable elderly victim. This is in addition to parole violation.
White has prior arrests for assaults, burglary, carjacking, possession of a controlled substance, among other offenses. He was convicted for first-degree burglary in 2018 and incarcerated in San Quentin State Prison. In 2017, he was convicted for second-degree commercial burglary and sentenced to probation. In 2015, he was convicted for unlawful driving or taking of a vehicle. In 2007, White was convicted for brandishing a replica firearm.
