Veteran Cop Charged with Domestic Violence

May 1, 2022 – Santa Barbara County, Ca.   Other than his involvement in a pair of fatal shootings in 2021—in which both incidents were ruled as justifiable homicide with the decedents leaving behind suicide notes–48-year-old Lompoc Police officer Mauricio Torres Calderon appears to have an admirable record of law enforcement service over the past 25 years, 12 years of which have been at the Lompoc Police Department.

That service was suspended by LPD Chief Joseph Mariani pursuant to Calderon’s arrest on the afternoon of April 21st. It was just after 2:00 p.m. when he was handcuffed in his attorney’s office, transported to Santa Barbara County Northern Branch Jail, and booked on a charge of corporal injury to a spouse and sexual battery. His bail was set at $50,000.

According to Calderon’s attorney, Michael Scott, the incident of domestic violence “was reported several days later” after it allegedly occurred on April 15, 2022. Following his arrest, Calderon “cooperated with investigators and provided a statement,” Scott reported, adding that the evidence presented upon Calderon’s arrest “in no way was criminal.”

Once booked, Calderon posted bail and was released pending further investigation and a court date of June 22, 2022.
