Merced police have announced the arrest of one of two suspects in an alleged carjacking late last month.

In the early morning hours of Tuesday, April 26, officers responded to the 1300 block of East 23rd Street to investigate a reported carjacking. The victim told officers that he’d picked up a woman he met through social media when a second, male individual appeared and carjacked him at gunpoint. The man and woman then rode off together in the victim’s car, police said.

Later that same day, an officer reportedly saw the stolen vehicle pull into the Raley’s parking lot at Yosemite and G Street and contacted the occupant — identified as 19-year-old Kethan Jones-Slaise.

Jones-Slaise was ultimately taken into custody in connection to the alleged carjacking, police said.
