A Sacramento man has been arrested in connection to a fatal stabbing in Monterey back in February.

25-year-old Gilbert Scott Jr. was identified as the primary suspect in the fatal stabbing of Dexter Barnett Jr. (28).

The stabbing occurred in the early morning hours of February 13, on the 300 block of Alvarado Street in Monterey. Officers had responded to the area to investigate reports of a fight, and learned that a man — later identified as Barnett — had been taken to the hospital with stab wounds. Barnett was ultimately pronounced dead of his injuries, police said.

Many of Barnett’s friends also arrived at the hospital, having reportedly witnessed the altercation and stabbing. Following extensive investigation, an arrest warrant for Scott was issued just days later, on February 18.

Scott was located and arrested the following day in Phoenix, Arizona, according to police.
