“On Tuesday, March 15, 2022 at approximately 1856 hours, a Kings County Deputy Sheriff was on patrol and spotted a black Honda Accord traveling in the area of Lacey Blvd and Mall Drive in Hanford. The Deputy noticed black tape covering the rear license plate of the Honda making it unreadable. The Deputy conducted a traffic stop on the Honda and contacted the two occupants.

The driver of the Honda told the Deputy they were from Bakersfield and had come to Hanford because the shopping was better than in Bakersfield. As the investigation unfolded the Deputy learned the passenger named Michael Kirby had actually come to Hanford to “boost” items from Target and Lowe’s.

During a search of the Honda, the Deputy located over $171 worth of stolen items from the Hanford Target store and stolen items from the Hanford Lowe’s worth over $3000.

Surveillance video from Lowe’s confirmed that Michael had in fact stolen the items earlier from the store. Michael was also determined to be under the influence of a controlled substance which ended up being Methamphetamine and Opiates.

Michael was arrested and booked into the Kings County Jail on the charges of burglary, grand theft, possession of stolen property, possession of drug paraphernalia and being under the influence of a controlled substance. His bail was set at $40,000.”
