A Redding man has been arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, criminal threats, and vandalism following a chaotic incident at the Rusty Nail Lounge, police said.

25-year-old Cameron Willits is accused of entering the lounge at around 11:30 PM on Tuesday, January 18th — armed with what was first mistaken for a sword but later discovered to be a bent metal pipe — and threatening to kill an employee. Police say the employee calmly told Willits not to murder anyone and that he needed leave, which Willits then did. Employees then quickly locked the doors and called police.

Shortly thereafter, Willits reportedly tried to go back inside and, when he couldn’t, began striking the outside windows with the pipe. Responding officers arrived a short time later, and were able to de-escalate the situation; Willits surrendered peacefully, police said.

He was later booked at the Shasta County Jail.
