“Last night around 10:40 p.m. on Thursday, December 9th, officers responded to a robbery at a local convenience store in the 3300 block of Iowa Avenue.
A male suspect walked in to the business wanting to buy a beer. The clerk refused the purchase because the suspect did not have any identification to prove his age.
The suspect then exited the store but returned with a handgun and pointed it at the clerk. He threatened the clerk, stole the beer, then left in a gray truck. The clerk called 9-1-1 and gave the dispatcher a detailed description of the suspect and getaway vehicle.
While officers were on the way to the liquor store, they found the suspect vehicle driving on University Avenue near Victoria Avenue. Along with assisting officers, they conducted a high-risk stop and safely detained the suspect. They also found the handgun the suspect used during the robbery and determined it was a BB gun.
Guillermo Retes, 36-years-old of Riverside, was arrested and booked into jail for armed robbery and criminal threats. He is being held on $30,000 bail.”
