Suspect arrested in fatal shooting near Zalud Park in Tulare County

Porterville police have announced the arrest of a primary suspect in a recent fatal shooting near Zalud Park in Tulare County.

On the night of Tuesday, November 23, officers were dispatched to investigate a report of a possible gunshot victim at a railroad bed near Zalud Park. The victim, a 54-year-old man, later succumbed to his injuries, police said.

Detectives eventually identified 18-year-old Alexander Chavez of Porterville as the primary suspect.

Chavez was located and arrested on the 400 block of West Morton Avenue on Tuesday, November 30, and booked without bail at the South County Detention Facility.
