Caldor Fire: Father & son arrested in connection to recent wildfire that scorched more than 200,000 acres

The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office has announced the arrests of a father and son in connection to the Caldor Fire, the wildfire that scorched more than 200,000 acres in El Dorado and Amador Counties.

66-year-old David Scott Smith and 32-year-old Travis Shane Smith were arrested on Ramey warrants for suspicion of reckless arson. The Caldor Fire burned from August to October of this year, decimating land, inhabited properties, and resulted in numerous injuries and evacuations.

Additionally, Travis Smith has reportedly been charged with converting a firearm into a machine gun.

The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office has also published court documents detailing the charges against the two suspects, who are expected to be arraigned today, December 10th.
