Three Suspects Believed Responsible for 25 Armed Robberies in Custody

CONCORD — A multi-jurisdictional investigation in Contra Costa County culminated in the recent arrests of three men. The suspects are believed responsible for committing about 25 armed robberies in a period of 90 days.

A rash of armed robberies began in August, occurring in Antioch, Bay Point, Brentwood, Clayton, Concord, and Pittsburg. Investigators determined these robberies were related and they collaborated to identify the suspects.

On November 3rd, another armed robbery occurred in Concord. The Concord Police Department notified the other agencies involved in the investigation. The vehicle used by the suspects was located and stopped in Bay Point.

Three Pittsburg residents were detained, and evidence of the robberies was located inside the vehicle. All three men were taken into custody on November 3rd by Concord PD.

Following the arrests, authorities from Antioch, Concord and Pittsburg executed search warrants on residences located in Pittsburg. Additional evidence linking the suspects to the armed robberies was recovered during these searches.

The youngest suspect, 18-year-old Samuel Banales-Melana, remains in custody at the Martinez Detention Facility in lieu of $1,270,000 bond.

Rogelio Medina-Flores, 19, is being held at the Martinez Detention Facility in lieu of $650,000 bond.

Jonathan Medina-Flores, 20, also remains in custody at the Martinez Detention Facility. His bond was set at $880,000.

On November 5th, the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office filed felony charges with enhancements against all three armed-robbery suspects.
