RICHMOND, CA  — Officers interrupted a sexual assault of a small girl and arrested a 22-year-old man.
The suspect Marlon A. Martinez, a resident of Richmond, is in custody at the West County Detention
Facility.

Martinez is being held in lieu of $7 million bond, pending a court hearing on February 19.
Martinez was taken into custody on January 28, after police were flagged down about a possible
sexual assault underway. “The person provided information about a juvenile who was possibly the victim of a sexual assault,”
officials said in a released statement.

Officers responded to suspect’s home and knocked on his door. Martinez, a heavyset man standing 5
feet 6 inches and weighing 215 pounds, answered the door wearing only a bath towel. A girl less than
10 years old was found inside the residence. The suspect and victim were alone and
unsupervised.

Upon further investigation, officers learned the suspect was sexually assaulting the girl when officers
arrived on the scene. Martinez was arrested and booked on suspicion of charges of rape, continuous sexual assault of a child, sexual intercourse with a child and forcible lewd acts upon a child.
