Monterey Police: Suspects arrested in alleged sexual assault of teen

Monterey police have announced the arrests of two people in connection to the alleged sexual assault of a teenager.

55-year-old John Wright of Monterey and 20-year-old Orlando Aquino of San Francisco were identified by police as the primary suspects in the sexual assault of a minor victim they had reportedly met through social media.

Police say Wright is also a documented sex offender, stemming from a conviction in 1985 for lewd and lascivious acts with a victim under the age of 14, and had failed to register as a sex offender with local police.

Wright was arrested on the morning of September 29 on suspicion of sodomy with an individual under 18 years old, child endangerment, and failure to register as a sex offender, among other charges. Following a request by detectives for bail enhancement, Wright’s bail was set at $1.5 million.

Aquino was located and arrested in Daly City on suspicion of sodomy with an individual under 18 years old, child endangerment, and neglect, among other charges. His bail has been set at $100,000.
