Atascadero Police: Multi-vehicle collision being investigated as assault with a deadly weapon

Atascadero Police have announced that multiple people have been hospitalized with major injuries as a result of collisions involving multiple vehicles, including the person they believe deliberately caused the crash, on the morning of September 5th.

Just after 10 that morning, police, fire, and emergency services were dispatched to the 13500 block of Highway 41, where multiple callers had reported that a vehicle — described as a silver Subaru — had caused a multi-vehicle collision. Multiple people were taken to hospital with serious injuries via multiple ambulances, including the driver of the Subaru, police said.

Several witnesses reportedly saw the driver, whose name has not been released, intentionally driving recklessly and swerving into oncoming traffic in a seemingly deliberate attempt to cause a crash. As such, police have announced that they are investigating the incident as a case of assault with a deadly weapon.

Anyone with information relevant to the investigation is encouraged to contact the Atascadero Police Department at 805-461 – 5051.
