Merced man arrested in connection to recent Calimyrna Avenue shooting

MERCED- On September 18th, Merced Police officers developed information on the whereabouts of Julio Lucio. Lucio was alerted to the presence of officers and tried to flee from a residence in the 1000 block of W. 2nd Street. He was apprehended after a short foot chase. Lucio was booked into custody at the Merced County Jail.

On August 23, 2021, Merced PD officers responded to the area of Calimyrna Avenue and East 22nd Street in Merced for a report of shots fired. Responding officers were directed to the area of East 21st Street and Yosemite Parkway where they located the 25-year-old male victim. The victim was shot once in the leg. The victim was taken to a regional trauma center hospital and was later released.

Detectives responded to the scene to assist with the investigation and they were able to identify one of two suspects. Julio Elyaz Lucio (19) of Merced was identified as the shooter. Lucio has an active warrant for his arrest. Detectives are still attempting to identify the female that drove Lucio to and from the crime scene.
