Two gang members arrested in stolen Explorer

“Last night, MADCAT detectives were following up on a stolen vehicle investigation in the community of Prunedale. With the assistance from the Watsonville Police Department, 42-year-old Gabriel Penuelas was stopped driving a stolen Ford Explorer in the unincorporated community of Pajaro. Also, in the vehicle was 22-year-old Moises Fernandez of Watsonville. Both Penuelas and Fernandez are known gang members.
Inside the vehicle, detectives located a loaded ‘Ghost Glock’ semi-automatic handgun with an extended magazine and methamphetamine. Penuelas was recently arrested for being in a stolen vehicle. Penuelas was arrested and booked into the Monterey County Jail on a violation of Post Release Community Supervision, weapon and drug related charges. Fernandez was arrested and booked into the Monterey County Jail on violating probation, weapon and drug related charges.
MADCAT (Multi-Agency Detail for Combatting Auto Theft) is a team comprised of investigators from the Sheriff’s Office, California Highway Patrol and Salinas Police Department along with the District Attorney’s Office.
This year alone, MADCAT has recovered over 250 stolen vehicles valued at over 3 million dollars.
