“On April 21, 2021, at approximately 1:40 p.m., Officer Jack Hostetler was on patrol in the area of Louie Avenue and Friguglietti Avenue, when he observed a gray Nissan Altima traveling without displaying a front license plate or rear registration tabs. The Officer attempted to stop the vehicle with his emergency lights and siren, but the driver, 22-year-old Irwin Bryan Mercado of Los Banos, failed to yield and accelerated away.
Mercado led the officer on a 20 minute vehicle pursuit which ended when Mercado abandoned his vehicle at an apartment complex in the City of Newman. Mercado ran from the area but was later located hiding in the backyard of a residence in the 1200 Block of Blue Bonnet Drive. No injuries or damage was reported as a result of the vehicle pursuit.

Mercado was booked into the Los Banos Police Department without bail, charged with failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, parole violation, and driving without a valid license. The Los Banos Police Department would like to thank the Newman Police Department and the Gustine Police Department for their assistance during the pursuit and in apprehending the suspect.”
