Three people have been arrested after an alleged shooting and pursuit in Merced this past weekend.

On Sunday, June 21, an officer spotted a vehicle driving erratically near 12th and M Streets and initiated a stop that instead became a pursuit.

During the pursuit, which police say lasted 22 minutes and at times reached speeds up to 120 MPH, dispatch began receiving calls about a shooting that had occurred in the same area the pursuit had begun.

The suspect vehicle eventually left the road at Lander and Westside Boulevard, at which point the pursuit came to an end and three people fled from the car.

All three — 21-year-old Manuel Leon, 19-year-old Sebastian Ramirez, and a 17-year-old juvenile —  were arrested on suspicion of felony evading, assault with a firearm, shooting into an occupied vehicle, and gang enhancements. A loaded gun was also found in the vehicle.

Leon also faces additional charges related to numerous traffic violations.

Police say that despite the victim’s vehicle being struck several times, they themselves were not injured.
