Merced – Merced Police officers arrested Alfonso Rodriguez (44) and Michael Garcia (42) for stealing $850 worth of construction wood from a North Merced residential home development site.

On 06/19/21, at 3:30 AM, Merced Police Department officers responded to the area of Freemark and Cardella Avenue for a suspicious vehicle inside a residential home development site. Officer Centeno located the vehicle and detained the occupants.

A witness observed Rodriguez and Garcia loading construction wood into the back of a pick-up truck.

The total loss from the theft was approximately $850. Thankfully, all the wood was recovered and returned to the job site. Rodriguez and Garcia were arrested and released on citations. We would like to encourage the community to report suspicious activity especially after hours at development sites
