“On October 10th at 4:50 PM, Officer Lupian and Sergeant Perez with the Gang Violence Suppression Unit were patrolling the unit block of W. 19th St in Merced.
They observed 3 males in an altercation on 19th St. When the officers went to contact the group, one of the subjects ran from the area. The two remaining subjects reported the male who just ran away brandished a firearm during the altercation.
Officers developed information that the subject who fled was inside a nearby residence on W 19th St. Officers surrounded the residence and authored a search warrant for the residence. Eventually two males voluntarily walked out of the residence and were taken into custody.
They were identified as Fredrick Mays (33) and Trayvone Peterson (20). Officers identified Mays as the subject who initially ran from the altercation with the firearm.
Officers searched the residence and located a 9mm semi-automatic handgun inside. Both Mays and Peterson are documented gang members and had warrants for their arrests.
Mays is prohibited from possessing any firearms due to his previous criminal history. Mays was booked at Merced County Jail for possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, brandishing a firearm, resisting/delaying officers, gang enhancements and warrant from California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
Peterson was arrested for resisting/delaying officers, gang enhancements and a local warrant.
