“On Saturday evening, MADCAT detectives were following up on a stolen vehicle investigation on Reese Circle, in the community of Prunedale. The detectives located a 2020 Nissan Altima stolen from the city of Salinas.
During the investigation, 34-year-old Michael Rivas was arrested and booked into the Monterey County Jail for auto theft and drug related charges.
MADCAT (Multi-Agency Detail for Combatting Auto Theft) is a team comprised of investigators from the Sheriff’s Office, California Highway Patrol and Salinas Police Department, along with the District Attorney’s Office.

This year alone, MADCAT has recovered over 100 stolen vehicles valued at over 1 million dollars. The goal of MADCAT is to reduce the number of vehicle thefts in Monterey County. This would not be possible without the help and cooperation of all the residents in Monterey County.”
