A Father and his Son Face Charges for Murder at a Construction Site

OAKLAND — A father and son allegedly murdered one man and wounded a second man during a shooting at a construction site. Both suspects were located and arrested four days later.

The shootings occurred on January 11 at approximately 3 p.m. on the 2400 block of Market Street. Apparently, one victim was shot while being chased and the other victim was shot inside a vehicle.

Video camera surveillance evidence recorded at the construction site enabled authorities to identify the two suspects. Oakland officers located and arrested them in Tracy on January 15.

The son Terrance M. Jones, 30 of Merced, is suspected of shooting the two victims. Jones allegedly chased and fatally shot 58-year-old Lai Dang, and wounded the second victim who survived the shooting.

Jones next purportedly ran to a car—where his father—Arthur Lee Jones, 67 of Oakland, was waiting. Then father and son drove away from the bloodied construction site.

Terrance Jones is charged with murder and 11 other charges, causing great bodily injury and weapons-related charges. He is also accused of shooting at an occupied vehicle. He remains in custody at Santa Rita Jail in lieu of $50,000 bond.

Arthur Jones is charged with murder and three weapons-related charges. He remains in custody at Santa Rita Jail ineligible for release on bond. Incidentally, he was also arrested twice in 2017 for assaults in San Joaquin County.
