“A 19-year-old gang member carrying a loaded gun and drugs has been taken into custody following a brief foot pursuit early this afternoon.
The suspect, Gabriel Villanueva, was with a group of gang probationers outside of a home on the 100 block of Dawson Street when our Special Investigations Unit and patrol officers approached them. The group, including Villanueva, took off running.
Officers found Villanueva hiding behind a garage nearby. The suspect had a loaded concealed firearm on his waistband. We are still working to determine if the firearm was stolen. Villanueva was also in possession of meth and heroin.
The rest of the group was identified and released to their parents. The incident will be forwarded to the probation department.
Villanueva was booked into the Santa Cruz County Jail for carrying a concealed loaded handgun in public and possession of drugs for sale while armed.”
