The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office has announced the arrest of one of its own employees on suspicion of sexual assault and kidnapping.

27-year-old Johnny Joe Mallobox Jr., a recruit trainee for the Sheriff’s Department currently enrolled at the police academy, is accused of sexually assaulting an individual back in mid-April. The age and sex of the victim have not been disclosed publicly.

According to the Sheriff’s Department, Mallobox was not an employee at the time. The victim came forward in July after he was hired.

Based on an interview with Mallobox, as well as other facts surrounding the case, he was arrested on suspicion of forced oral copulation and kidnapping.

He remains in custody on $200,000 bail.
