May 13, 2020 – Ventura County – It may be the case that 34-yerar-old Thousand Oaks resident Joshua Joffred is simply interested in testing the limits of his rights under The Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution…or that he’s sadly obsessed with firearms to the extent that he succeeded in amassing a collection of more than 30 assault weapons for his personal amusement.

Whatever his rationale, on the afternoon of May 11, 2020, Joffred had attracted sufficient attention from the Thousand Oaks Police Department, the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department to earn himself a “traffic stop” at the hands of deputies while driving on the streets of Thousand Oaks.

The cops who stopped Joffred had a search warrant issued on what VCSD spokesperson Detective Nicole Grover described as “information” indicating that he was in possession of multiple illegal firearms and that he had applied for a permit to carry a concealed weapon.

As they served the search warrant on Joffred, his vehicle, and his residence, detectives located an impressive cache of weapons that included “semiautomatic centerfire rifles, Ak-47 variant assault rifles, semiautomatic pistols, a semiautomatic shotgun, numerous high-capacity magazines, drum style magazines capable of holding over 50 rounds of ammunition, and numerous handguns.”

According to Grover, all the weapons had been illegally modified to include “muzzle breaks, fore grips, second hand grips, detachable magazines, collapsible stocks, and pistol grips,” all in violation of the California Assault Weapon Ban. The ensuing investigation indicated that Joffred was prohibited from owning any firearms at all as a documented opiate addict.

Joffred was taken into custody and transported to Ventura County Jail, where he was booked on a wide range of firearms violations including being an addict in possession of firearms.
