Siskiyou County Sheriff investigates alleged officer-involved shooting

The Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a recent officer-involved shooting that occurred during a burglary-trespass call at the Klamath River Country Estates.

Deputies responded to the 12000 block of Halibut Way around 2:30 PM on Monday, March 16, after being alerted to the presence of a suspicious person at the property.

When they arrived, the suspect reportedly fled out the back while armed with a rifle.

Deputies gave chase and at some point, according a Sheriff’s Department press release, a shooting involving one deputy occurred.

The suspect dropped the rifle and began cutting himself with a knife, all the while continuing to refuse orders to surrender. Eventually deputies were able to subdue him with non-lethal methods.

Medical personnel rendered emergency first aid at the scene before air-lifting the man to a hospital in Redding. His current condition has not been made public.

A traffic collision that was later reported in the area is believed to be associated with the same suspect, whose name has also not been released.
