LINCOLN – On July 16th a deputy with the Placer County Sheriff’s Office noticed a man “walking away from a rapidly growing grass fire.”

Within a minute the fire grew to an area of over 100 feet in diameter near Foothills Boulevard and Athens Avenue, just down the road from Thunder Valley Casino.

The deputy contacted  the man, 27-year-old Gary Ruble, who “claimed he didn’t notice the fire burning beside him.”

The fire ended up burning about 10 acres before being extinguished.

After an arson investigation, Ruble was arrested and remains in custody with his bail set at $150,000.
