MOUNTAIN VIEW – The Mountain View Police Department has made an arrest of an attempted burglary suspect who was found jumping onto a rooftop in order to try and enter a residence. According to police, “Around 11:30 a.m. on July 6, officers responded to reports of an attempted home burglary on the 100 block of Promethean Way.”
The homeowner reported to police that the suspect, 27-year-old Jorge Hernandez of Palo Alto, was on top of his roof making noise when he became aware of the suspect. The man exited to his back yard and confronted the would-be burglar. Seeing the homeowner and fearing he would be caught, Hernandez jumped down and exited through the back yard.
A patrolling unit sent to the area found the suspect at the end of a cul-de-sac at Central Avenue. The suspect was detained and a field check identified him as the person being chased off by the homeowner.
“We are proud of the quick response and swift actions by our patrol team to apprehend this suspect,” said Lt. Armando Espitia. “It was excellent work, and we are glad that all are safe and that this incident was resolved.”

Hernandez was subsequently arrested for burglary of an occupied dwelling, physically resisting a police officer, possession of burglary tools, providing a false ID to a peace officer, and wearing a mask during the commission of a crime to conceal his identity.
