Insurance agent takes over $65,000 from small business clients

LOS ANGELES  — Knowing that his time was up and he had to finally face the music, 67-year-old Francis Okyere turned himself in to authorities at the Los Angeles Superior Court on May 16th.

He had been charged with four counts of felony grand theft. Okyere, an insurance agent, had multiple complaints filed against him, and that prompted an investigation into his activities.

Apparently Okyere continued  collecting money for insurance policies that he had cancelled, unbeknownst to his clients. Between July 2015 and September 2016, the suspect pocketed $65,456 in premium payments from four small businesses.

Okyere’s bail was set at $30,000. “The Department of Insurance Legal Division filed an Accusation against Okyere on December 18, 2018 and is seeking to revoke his insurance license. If anyone has information on this investigation, we urge them to call the department at 661-253-7500.”
