2 Prowlers with Burglary Tools Arrested in Commercial District

EMERYVILLE — Two prowling suspects were picked up with burglary tools in their possession near a restaurant and hotel in the city’s commercial district. Both men were arrested on March 13th at 8:36 p.m.

An officer who happened to be nearby noticed a man was casing cars in a parking lot. The vehicles were parked outside the Black Bear Restaurant located at 5750 Christie Avenue. The man was spotted shining a flashlight inside the cars.

Naturally, the officer attempted to make an investigative stop on the suspect’s car, but the driver evaded the officer. Though the driver and his passenger didn’t get far before the law closed in.

The driver turned into another nearby parking lot just a stone’s throw away. Soon afterward, police arrested the two suspects outside the Emeryville Hyatt House hotel, located at 5800 Shellmound Avenue.

While the driver was arrested without further incident, his passenger attempted to flee from the scene on foot. Officers ran after him, and he was quickly apprehended.

Both suspects, Juan Rodriguez, 22 from Richmond, and Kevin Giron, 23 of Richmond, were booked in jail. Each is accused of possession of stolen property and possession of burglary tools. They also face charges for prowling, evading officers and resisting arrest
