Man on Parole Arrested Multiple Times Since Being Released from Prison

OAKLAND, CA — Aleem Spencer, 44, of Oakland, has been arrested multiple times since being
released from prison on parole last year. His arrest in August stems from a daytime shootout
with police at a park, arson, and a prior shooting incident.

Spencer was booked into Alameda County Santa Rita Jail on August 30. He was taken into
custody on the 2600 block of 22nd Avenue in Oakland. Police surrounded Spencer who
barricaded himself inside an abandoned house.

Spencer had just reportedly fled from a shootout with police at Manzanita Park. He ran from
the park into the surrounding neighborhood. Fortunately, no one was shot.
The Alameda County District Attorney’s Office said in a prepared statement. “Spencer entered
an abandoned residence and threw containers of flammable liquid at officers, starting a fire
that engulfed much of the residence.”

Oakland police used tear gas to force Spencer outside. A struggle ensued and Spencer
sustained injuries requiring medical evaluation at a hospital, before he was transported to jail.
Multiple felony charges have been filed against Spencer involving attempted murder. Spencer
allegedly opened fire on officers responding to a report of a man armed with hammer, and
threatening to kill a woman outside Manzanita Recreation Center.

Spencer is also charged for a separate shooting on August 1, which occurred on the 600
block of 34th Street. For this incident, Spencer is charged with attempted murder and assault
with a firearm. The victim survived gunshot wounds to the abdomen, back, and arm.
Spencer is a registered sex offender, convicted for kidnapping and assault with intent to
commit a sex crime. He has reportedly violated conditions of his parole several times since he
was released from prison in 2025.
