Family dispute escalates to brandishing a firearm in San Mateo

SAN MATEO // Police have taken protective custody of a 77-year-old woman after a family dispute during which she allegedly threatened a family member with a firearm.

On February 6th just before 5 PM, officers arrived at a home on the 1600 block of Maxine Avenue after dispatch received word of the incident. They were on scene in less than one minute and immediately began directing other family members to safety.

Crisis Intervention Trained Officers were then called to establish communications with the woman, who eventually exited the residence unarmed and was taken into protective custody.

Police say it all began with a verbal argument between family members that simply escalated well beyond a reasonable point. While criminal charges are being considered, the woman has been admitted to San Mateo Medical Center PES for evaluation.
